            In order to reduce the energy consumption and carbon emissions of disposable plastics, DOE of the United States Department of Energy recently announced that it will provide US $13.4 million for the next generation of plastic technology. Seven research and development projects led by the industry and universities have received funding support. These seven major projects will be committed to developing cost-effective "upgrade recycling" solutions, converting waste plastic films into more valuable materials, and designing new types of plastics that are easy to recycle and biodegradable.
            This investment is beneficial for the Department of Energy to address the challenge of plastic waste recycling and support the Biden administration in establishing a clean energy economy to ensure that the United States achieves net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
            To reduce plastic pollution, on the one hand, governments around the world have successively introduced regulations to force the addition of recycled plastics. For example, California passed and implemented the first recycled plastic bottle bill in the United States last year, requiring beverage bottles to add at least 15% recycled plastics, which will increase to 50% by 2030; Starting from April 1st, the UK will impose a plastic packaging tax of £ 200 per ton on plastic packaging made or imported from the UK with less than 30% recycled materials. On the other hand, Coca Cola, PepsiCo, Unilever, Nestle, Wal Mart and other global consumer goods and retail giants last week called for a global agreement to combat plastic pollution and increase the use of recycled plastics.
